I've geen getting strange gfx glitches in GW for a while now, forcing DirectX 8 solved the problem for a while, but it suddenly started doing it in DX8 too, it's useless to try to explain what happens so here's some screenies:

only other information Ican give is my system stats:

CPU: 2-AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+
RAM 1023MB
GFX NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS
Display 1280x1024/32bit/60Hz
Windows XP Home SP2

also, after it starts flickering like that, my PC either completely freezes up (not even CTRL+ALT+DEL does anything) or I minimize and my entire PC goes into 16bit colour, afterwhich I end GW.exe and then the screen goes blank.

I have the latest drivers and latest DX9.

Any help would be appreciated

Looks like your video card's overheating or has bad RAM. Try monitoring its temperature via the Nvidia control panel while running something that puts a heavy load on it.

Sometimes the newest drivers aren't always the best and can cause problems. Try installing older versions of your Graphics Card driver and see if it solves the problem. I also agree with lordpwn. Run a memtest program such as MemTest 3.5. This will test if there's any errors in your RAM. At least allow it to run to 100%, but running it overnight would be the best way to check for errors.

I wouldn't bother with MemTest; it doesn't test your video card's RAM, only the computer's primary RAM, and if there was something wrong with the latter the system would be far more likely to just randomly crash instead of showing rendering artifacts typical of a malfunctioning video card.
